Moroccan Lamb Tagine Recipe

Like I’ve mentioned in my previous tagine recipe article (my Vegetable Tagine Recipe), cooking with a tagine is my hidden secret to succulent and easy meals.

Why not cook your next meat dish in a tagine and taste the imaginable – tagine cooking truly is one of a kind.

New to tagine cooking. Well don’t be intimadited. It’s one of the easiest ways to cook and once you start, you won’t be able to stop.

Tagine cooking is similar to a ‘stew’ as your meals, like this Moroccan Lamb Tagine Recipe, is simmered in a tagine pot. This allows the lamb to cook beautifully to retain all flavor and moisture.

What Do You Need?

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 85 minutes

Servings: 3-4 people

Lamb Tagine Ingredients:

  • 1 chopped white onion
  • OliMoroccan-Lamb-Tagineve Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 3/4 – 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground tumeric
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Fresh mint
  • 10 Saffron threads (optional)
  • 1 pound cubed lamb
  • Prunes, Plumes and Almonds if you wish
  • Salt and pepper

Moroccan Lamb Tagine Recipe

* Super Important Tip When Cooking with a Tagine: Ensure that you fill the tagine about half way and your meal makes a pyramid shape to fit inside the shape of the tagine. Ensure that your ingredients don’t touch the sides of the tagine as we want hot air to circulate whilst the tagine is cooking.

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Heat some olive oil in the tagine pot
  3. Sprinkle salt and pepper on the cubed lamb and saute the lamb until the meat develops a nice darkish color.
  4. Once sautéed, add the beef broth (keep some aside for later) and chopped onion
  5. After a few minutes, add the turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, saffron, prunes, honey.
  6. Cover with the tagine lid and bring to boil
  7. Once brought to boil, place the tagine in the oven for 50 minutes
  8. Check regularly to see if you require more beef broth.
  9. The broth will thicken towards the end and you can choose the consistency by adding more/less broth.
  10. Garnish with mint and chopped almonds.
  11. Serve with couscous or rice for a delicious complete meal.
